I don't want this to sound like a punchline. Yesterday, I literally saw the blind leading the blind -- a blind couple on campus, arm in arm with white canes, and it didn't fit the expression. They seemed independent, sure-footed, deeply invested in conversation. I've always thought the phrase fit me and Dave -- stumbling along as we do -- but now that I've seen it in action, it's something to aspire to.
I was with my three-year-old at the time, and he commented on the man's eyes, noticing something different. We then talked about sight, closed our eyes, and touched each other's faces. Something I won't soon forget.
